My New Years Resolution 2016

I know, I know you’ve been dying to know what my new years resolution would be this year.

Well, worry not, I am here to put your mind at ease.

I don’t do resolutions.
There I said it.
At least not resolutions in the way that most people do.

I create a word for the year and goal plan around that.
This year my word is GROWTH. This is a year of growing for me.

noun: growth; plural noun: growths
-the process of developing or maturing physically, mentally, or spiritually.
-the process of increasing in amount, value, or importance.

This is personal growth as well as business growth. And I am fully anticipating meltdowns, harsh reality checks and maybe even a few happy gigs here and there.

I don’t do resolutions, because only 8% of the people who make a new years resolution actually achieve them. Resolutions are basically a bucket list. Goals with no plans, that are basically just wishes. Plus, this whole creating a long (mostly unattainable)list thing,  just seems very overwhelming and stressful to me.

No. Thanks.

Here are the things I would like to GROW in:

-Investing in myself. Spending at least 30min a day in personal development. Be that my essential oil business, my blogging, or myself.

-Growth with the Lord. I honestly want the Lord to wring me out. In a good way. And probably in not so good ways as well. I just want him to do a mighty work on my soul, (as you can see from my last post), I have some battles with the enemy I would like to overcome.

– Loving of self.

-Growing my essential oil team.

-Growing in my love for others.

And other than that I just plan on praying about how God will grow me. That he can open my eyes, my heart and my ears to his plan for me throughout my year of Growth. Asking Him, to show me what growth looks like. After all he knows better than I do.

Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
— Joshua 1:9

Picking  word isn’t meant to drive or push me to do any certain thing. For me choosing a word is all about surrendering it to God and letting him have his way with it. That he can do with it within me what he wants.

However some success does not come without having a plan. I have books on audible I listen to on the way to work. I have a must read list for the year. Meetings on my planner to attend. We are dinner prepping as a family on Sunday nights so that lunches and dinners are pre-made and breakfast is already planned out. Helping me have a better ability to make use of my time to achieve those little things that will help create growth. Thanks to my husband being on board with my year of growth, he is encouraging me in this process.

And the jury is out on if this is “harder” than a typical resolution list or not. I would guess it probably is. But I am willing to bet it is the most rewarding. Mentally, physically and spiritually. I’d be lying if I didn’t cry new years day, already feeling overwhelmed by my ability to fail. Mostly overwhelmed by my desire to DO MORE this year and expect more for myself.

However that is when my husband helps me straighten my crown as God’s daughter and reminds me that it’s just the enemy talking.

Let me just put this out there right now, because God always has seemed to have a sense of humor in my life…the only area I am not planning any growth in, is the size of our family. But again, considering God has a sense of humor, I won’t rule out that we will end up with another pet, a child or some chickens. I mean I really have no expectations, but if you could be oh so kind to me Lord, I think a family of four is good for now!

If not this will just end up being a really funny (many many years later) blog post to look back on and remember how that ONE time I choose the word that God would use to punish me. Ha!

….crud. Now I am rethinking this whole growth word for the year.

So this year I challenge you to get with God. Pray over and think of what your word is for this year.
Surrender to the idea that yes, you may still forget the word on any given day, when life gets crazy it will be the last thing on your mind, but I guarantee you that God will remember you.

So for those of you reading this, what will YOUR one word be for 2016?!
