Heather Avis: Adoption, Down Syndrome, Motherhood & The Lucky Few
When Heather started her journey into motherhood, she had no idea it would be anything like what it is today. In fact I think that she would agree that her expectations were a lot lower than what God was about to give her. Although on the outside it may not seem that way. Because we are outsiders. There are things we miss out on, things we don't understand, and a division we mindlessly create between us and The Lucky Few.
Heather and I talk about motherhood, adoption, down syndrome, how she would change society's view of down syndrome and just REAL. LIFE. I think that is a powerful thing in itself. Just being willing to have open eyes and ears to each others lives, so we can learn from each other. I love that about Heather's book recently released this March, The Lucky Few. Which I read in one sitting in a Barnes & Noble. As a mom with relatively healthy children, I have no idea what motherhood looks like raising a child with down syndrome. With any unfamiliar territory you aren't sure what to ask, how to ask it, or how to help. Or even how to create a relationship with that mother or your children and theirs. Luckily this podcast I feel like gives me permission to ask what we normally don't find "socially acceptable" to ask. And I am so glad I did. I learned SO MUCH from her book, Heather's blog, and through this interview.

Because I know you're awesome like that! And we all know it takes a village. So the more we share the more we can come together, roar together and conquer this thing called life together.
Heather's Most Influential Books
If you are like me, you have hardly anytime to sit down much less READ. I have made it a point this new year to read more books. Because we cannot grow without learning. But the mom life makes it almost impossible right? That's where I have found my love for Audible. I can fold laundry, walk the dog, cook dinner or be in the car and listening to a good book. Whether it's a self help or fiction book I can fit my reading time in while doing other things at the same time. Multi-tasking! What moming is all about!
